Moving Tips
Cost Saving Tips …
Your move, whether commercial or residential, is all about men and time. Anything you can do to streamline the process in terms of “Prep Work” will help keep your moving expenses as reasonable as possible. Here are some suggestions that will mean a bit of extra work for you, but can result in nice savings. Please keep in mind that Hoover is glad to handle these items for you if you prefer….
- Pack your items yourself. This can save you hundreds of dollars in time and materials. Be sure to have the packing completed prior to the crew arriving because if they have to wait on you to finish, it’s more time on the clock.
- Have your appliances disconnected prior to the movers arriving
- Take your beds apart and re-assemble them in your new home. This is easy for most people to handle and can save 15-30mins per room.
- Move your hanging clothes in your car if possible. If we move them, they will need to be placed in wardrobe boxes, which adds time and material costs.
- Lamps and pictures, again these are items that are fairly easy to move in your car. If we move them they normally will need to be boxed which will again add expense to the over-all move.
- Use used boxes when possible. We offer used boxes for $1.00/each based on availability. Grocery stores are usually a good source for boxes. Liquor store boxes often have the boxes with dividers in them, which are perfect for stemware and nick-knacks.
- Keep pathways clear so that the movers are not wasting time walking around items. This also can avoid trip hazards.
- Have the major items tagged with the room they will be going to in your new home. Mark the rooms in the new home accordingly. This will keep you from having to direct the crew on these pieces and can save time.
